Scary Stories

A Scary Story by J.H

A family who lived on a farm had experienced a break-in while they were sleeping. The family was unaware that it happened until the next morning when they saw a few panes of the bedroom window of their daughter Aria's room were broken. Nobody heard a crash or even saw anything, and no other evidence was found, or items missing. The window would not be able to be repaired until the following day, as the father expecting a buyer for a tomato crop that day and was short on money. Nobody was worried about anything coming in, as it was fall and the bugs were starting to hibernate. They also figured that it was just some kids messing around, throwing rocks in the middle of the night, which happened to break the window. It became night, and everyone went to their rooms for bed.

Aria tried sleeping, but the wind blowing through the hole in the window caused a strange resonating whisper. She covered her ears and tried harder. It whistled louder, almost like a groan. The whistling sound stopped, but the distant groaning continued. There were plenty of old trees croaking in the wind, she thought. After 10 seconds of dead silence, the groan started again, but louder. She looked towards the window and saw the empty field outside her window. Acres of flat land, with large evergreen trees in the horizon, and a tall scarecrow in the middle. She had not noticed this scarecrow before tonight. It stood there, ragged and desolate, blowing in the wind.

It was then that she realized the weathervane was still as ever, and the scarecrow object was moving towards the window. The groan started to sound more shrill, like the shriek of bagpipes. The daughter now thought she must be having a nightmare, but stood still in shock, paralyzed in fear of what the creature will do once it reaches the window. As it crept closer, a look revealed a mummified looking man with completely black eyes and a bloody vest. As Aria's heart beat faster, the creature got closer. It suddenly stopped dead in it's tracks, and stared at Aria. It began to crack open it's mouth to a hideous, grotesque smile. It groaned again, a sustained mumble that grew more intense in volume with each heartbeat until it was a scream that shook the room.

Aria covered her eyes, and it stopped. She now could only hear the faint, occasional chirp of a cricket, or a nightingale's sorrow song. She slowly uncovered her eyes to look out the window, just appeared to be an empty field. She sighed in relief and set her head on the pillow, ready for some much needed slumber. As she closed her eyes, the creature JUMPED UP FROM UNDER THE BED AND SCREAMED!!!
